A FEW THINGS ABOUT QUILT TOP PREPARATION FOR LONGARMING:
Your quilt top should be pressed, squared, completed and clean, with loose threads removed. If you’re supplying your own batting and backing, they should also be squared, and should be a MINIMUM of 4″ bigger than your top on all sides.
Please do not baste these together, just fold them, put in a bag, to give or mail to me or your favourite quilter.
A FEW THINGS ABOUT BINDING:
If you decide to have your binding attached, you’ll need to make it.
Here’s how…
1 – Choose your binding fabric and cut into enough 2 1/4″ inch strips across WOF (width of fabric) to go around the edge of your quilt top.
2 – Join them together end to end using 1/4″ 45 degree angle seams.
3 – Press the joining seams open.
4 – Fold binding in half on the long edge to make it double thickness.
5 – Check it is long enough to go around your quilt with 12″ to spare.
6 – CELEBRATE! You just made binding! Well done!
If you decide to attach it yourself, you can still follow these steps to make it and I can tell you how long it needs to be after measuring your quilt.
