Today I have been prepping a Thanksgiving dinner.
In the far north we have a power cut scheduled for Thursday, so we’re doing it on Friday instead. Normally I’d go to a sewing group that day, but seeing as I’ll have both hands up a turkeys bum, I don’t think it’s going to work out. My turkey recipe comes from a 2007 copy of the magazine Fine Cooking… it’s brined, then rubbed under its skin with herb butter, then roasted. YUM!
Here is the magazine cover, sorry its not a link to a great recipe…
This is what I sent out as an invite, which pretty much sums it up for me:
“If you’ve got this email it’s because we are thankful for you being in our lives. (No! It’s not spam!!!)
Thanksgiving is something we celebrate (usually) by getting together and having a yummy, but casual, meal at our house. We would love you to come!
(insert small guest list here)…
The meat will be Turkey, and the rest is totally improv, but based on the traditional meal plan. No one brings gifts, (that’s Christmas!) it’s just a fun way to say thank you to people we love and appreciate.”
And that sums up what it means for us, here, now, in New Zealand. Being thankful.
Are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year and what does it mean for you?
PS… NO WAY am I showing you a picture of the inside of my fridge!
